Zagreb tops Lonely Planet's 2017 European destination list

ZAGREB, 23.5.2017.

Zagreb has topped prestigious travel guide Lonely Planet's 2017 Best in Europe list of the most exciting yet undiscovered European destinations for tourists.

According to Lonely Planet experts, Zagreb is often overlooked by visitors in favour of the country's extensive Adriatic coastline. "But this booming inland capital is both cosmopolitan and edgy, combining sun-splashed Austro-Hungarian squares brimming with coffee drinkers with a heady mix of Brutalist architecture, thriving street art and urban regeneration."

"With the city's long awaited airport terminal opening earlier this year, it's never been easier or cheaper to reach the Croatian capital, where visitors can discover a blossoming food and drink scene", Lonely Planet says.

The Swedish island of Gotland ranked second among the top ten places to visit in Europe in 2017, followed by the Galicia region of Spain, northern Montenegro, Leeds in Great Britain, Alentejo in Portugal, northern Germany, Moldova, Pafos in Cyprus, and Le Havre in France.
